Introduction to SeNSS Studentships
The University of Roehampton is part of the South and East Network for Social Sciences (SENSS), a consortium of 8 universities working as a Doctoral Training Partnership to offer Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) masters and PhD studentships.
Eligible Disciplines and Research Themes
Roehampton welcomes applications for funding in eligible disciplines, including interdisciplinary social science projects that speak to SENSS's core research themes:
- Business and Management Studies: Resolving Uncertainty and Addressing Crises, Sustainability and Climate Emergency, Justice, Institutions and Social Change, Advanced Methods for Social and Economic Research
- Communication, Cultural and Media Studies: Digital Social Sciences
- Education: Resolving Uncertainty and Addressing Crises, Justice, Institutions and Social Change
- Law: Sustainability and Climate Emergency, Justice, Institutions and Social Change
- Psychology: Resolving Uncertainty and Addressing Crises, Health, Wellbeing and Social Care
- Sociology: Digital Social Sciences, Resolving Uncertainty and Addressing Crises, Justice, Institutions and Social Change
Funding and Duration of Award
SENSS offers fully-funded PhD and Masters plus PhD studentships. The funding includes a maintenance stipend (including London weighting) and a full fee-waiver.
Eligibility for ESRC Funding
Applicants must meet the ESRC's eligibility criteria, which include:
- Academic: a 2.1 bachelor's degree for master's plus PhD, or a relevant ESRC-recognised master's degree for PhD-only awards
- Residency: UK, EU, and international students are eligible for a full award
- Discipline: ESRC funding at Roehampton is available only in the listed disciplines and for projects addressing SENSS research themes
Application Process
Prospective applicants should:

- Begin both the SeNSS and Roehampton online applications
- Submit completed Roehampton applications by the specified deadline
- Participate in interviews before the specified date
- Refine and update their application on HEIApply after the interview process
