Course Objectives
Students who pass this course should be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the project process in a workplace
- Communicate effectively with others and present statistical results logically
- Apply statistical methodologies in practice
- Extend their knowledge of and ability to apply statistics to new situations
How the Course is Taught
This course requires students to attend in person and cannot be taken online. It includes:
- Practicum briefing: Understanding professional expectations and responsibilities; dealing with problems arising in the workplace
- Placement: Working on specific projects with significant Statistics content assigned by a host employer; developing teamwork and communication skills; and submitting regular reports
- Seminar: Presenting the findings from the projects and sharing the placement experience with the class
Assessment
- Assessment Type: Pass/Fail
- Mandatory Requirements:
- Spend at least 200 hours in a workplace (verified by the host organisation)
- Submit and obtain a passing grade on all reports
- Give a presentation
