Course Objectives and Teaching
About This Course
This course introduces students to principles of human physiology and their representation in objects. Through design practice, students learn how individuality, physical structure, anatomy, and movement inform and inspire the design of products.
Course Learning Objectives
- Analyse human form and movement in relation to mechanical and biological principles and task.
- Develop a physiology-focused design practice using data capture, 3D scanning, physical prototype modelling, and testing.
- Identify and apply physiological principles in ways that align with and strengthen the Whai Mātauranga learning and teaching strategy.
How This Course Is Taught
- Lectures, studios, and tutorials require in-person attendance.
- Teaching and learning are delivered through one lecture and one studio session per week.
- Lecture recordings are made available in Nuku.
- This is an on-campus only course, not available for distance study, delivered at the Te Aro Campus.
Assessment
- The Body Mark: 40%
- Design as Physiology Mark: 40%
- Progress Based Assessments (PBAs) Mark: 20%
Requirements and Materials
- A basic understanding of 3D computer modeling (CAD) and digital software is required.
- Students need to provide all materials and equipment necessary for the completion of coursework.
- The estimated cost for materials and equipment is around $100 for the whole course, though this can vary depending on the design.
