Course Overview

The Fashion Design Technology Capstone, denoted as FADN 390, is a comprehensive course designed for students to integrate the skills, concepts, and approaches covered in the Fashion Design Technology major. This integration culminates in the production of a final work that reflects the student's unique focus. The course is centered around a research-informed project that critically engages with how wearable design reflects and contributes to the surrounding culture and society.

Course Objectives

Students who pass this course should be able to:


  1. Identify, scope, and articulate a design opportunity project.
  2. Develop and implement interdisciplinary methods, techniques, and strategies.
  3. Communicate situated and participatory designs and critical perspectives through text, visual material, and appropriate design tools and formats.
  4. Critically reflect on personal design objectives and outcomes in the wider discipline.

Teaching Method

The course includes lectures, studios, and tutorials that require in-person attendance. Lecture recordings are made available for subsequent revision. The class meets for 5 hours across 2 weekly sessions, including lectures and studios, with an additional final presentation session in the Assessment Period.

  • Phase 2: Collaborate and Co-create - 25%
  • Phase 3: Resolution and Presentation - 30%
  • Regular in-class tasks (PBAs) - 20%
