The Special Topic: Data Analytics for Financial Statements—ACCY 408 course is designed to teach students how to apply data analytics in accounting, auditing, financial statements analysis, and equity valuation. Lectures cover applications from financial accounting, management accounting, and auditing in both the private and public sectors. The course introduces advanced techniques used in data analytics in practice and explores the application of AI in data analytics.

- Corequisites: None
- Restrictions: Students who have already passed ACCY 306 cannot take this course
Course Learning Objectives
Students who pass this course should be able to:
- Explain key concepts, principles, and relationships in financial statement analysis
- Explain the principles of valuation
- Apply the concepts of risk analysis
- Adapt and apply those principles and concepts in valuing a real firm
- Critically analyze the application of data analytics in accounting and finance, including ethical considerations
How This Course is Taught
This course is optimized for face-to-face delivery on campus, but Zoom attendance is an option for students. Lectures can be accessed via synchronous (live-stream) through Zoom or Vstream. All lectures will be recorded and available throughout the course. Seminars include exercises in the use of data analytics.

- Seminar Presentation: 20%
- Assignment: 30%

To pass this course, students must:
- Attend the seminars
- Obtain a minimum mark of 40% in the assignment
