The New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management Canine Behaviour and Training is a program designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to work in the canine industry. With growing public and legislative interest concerning the management of animals, the industry is looking for work-ready graduates with the technical and transferable skills needed to take up job opportunities in canine-related industries.
Programme Overview
This program is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of canine behaviour and husbandry, as well as that of other companion animals. Students will learn about canine behaviour, nutrition, health, and welfare, and develop practical skills in handling and training dogs.

With this qualification, students can pursue a career in canine behaviour and training, or work in related fields such as:
- Animal welfare
- Conservation
- Veterinary nursing
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for this program, students must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Have a minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or higher, including:
- 14 credits in two subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Statistics)
- A further 14 credits in two additional domains
- 8 credits in English or Te Reo Mori (4 credits in reading and 4 credits in writing)
- Meet the English language requirements
