Elementary Education Program
The Elementary Education program at North Park University leads to an Illinois Professional Educator License upon completion. This program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective elementary school teachers.
Program Description
Elementary school teachers play a vital role in shaping the minds of young students. They serve as role models, spark imagination, and help students build self-confidence and acquire essential interpersonal skills. The Elementary Education program at North Park University is committed to preparing students for this critical role.
Program Requirements
The program includes a range of courses that cover historical, philosophical, contemporary, and ethical perspectives on education. Students learn about state and national standards, policies governing education, and careers related to teaching and education. The program also introduces students to state licensure requirements.

Teacher Education Program Admission Requirements
North Park's School of Education offers teacher licensure programs approved by the Illinois State Teacher Licensure Board and the Illinois State Board of Education.
Student Teaching
The program includes an extensive clinical experience that culminates in student teaching. For at least 12 weeks, students assume full responsibility for a classroom, teaching, attending meetings, keeping records, grading, and meeting with parents. A cooperating teacher and a North Park faculty member provide guidance and constructive feedback throughout the process.

The School of Education faculty includes experienced educators who are committed to mentoring and supporting students. For example, Dr. Ida Maduram, the Golden Apple Scholarship liaison, works with students who commit to serving in high-need schools.
