About Program
Program Overview
Introduction to the DVM Program
The DVM Program at St. George's University is a comprehensive veterinary medical program designed to be completed in four years on an optimal track.
Program Structure
Students on the optimal track spend three years in Grenada studying pre-clinical, paraclinical, and clinical subjects. The final year is spent in clinical rotations at affiliated schools of veterinary medicine.
Curriculum Details
- The first six terms of the curriculum consist of six courses.
- Each course contains:
- One Professional Skills (PS) unit
- One Clinical Skills (CS) unit
- One Systems (SYS) unit
- The SYS unit consists of modules, with the number of modules per SYS unit differing per term.
Program Requirements
To graduate from the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), a student must complete a total of 175 credits. This includes:
- Obtaining 127 credits from pre-clinical terms (covering terms 1 to 6 and passing all units in each course)
- Obtaining 48 credits from the clinical terms (terms 7 to 9; affiliate schools may require additional credits)
Continuity and Progression
The optimal track is a continuum of terms with minimal time off. The terms in the first three years are progressive, each term being a prerequisite for the next. Breaks in this progression are considered disruptive, and leave of absence (LOA) is discouraged.
