Program Overview
The India Medical Experience is a unique program offered by the School of Medicine, where students spend 15 days at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University (KIMS), Karad, Maharashtra, India.
Program Details
The program typically takes place in the last two weeks of July or December. During this time, students receive hands-on clinical exposure under the guidance of dedicated clinical professors in various medical specialties, including:
- Medicine
- Surgery
- OB/GYN
- Pediatrics
- ICU
- Radiology
- Radiotherapy
- Clinical anatomy
- Pathology
- Alternative systems of medicine
Clinical Experience
Students participate in various clinical activities, such as:
- Assisting in surgeries
- Childbirth and management in out-patient departments (OPDs)
- Wards and casualties
- Community outreach projects in areas like breast cancer and oral cancer
Cultural Exposure
The program provides students with the opportunity to interact with other medical students and residents from India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the United States. Additionally, students are exposed to health practices in a rural community teaching hospital, which has been very rewarding for past participants.
