Program Overview


Introduction to the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program

The Master's in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) program from Adelphi University is designed to prepare RNs licensed in New York State with bachelor's degrees for advanced practice as Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners. This online, 45-credit hour degree program can be completed within three years and features small classes and individualized mentoring by nurse practitioner faculty.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes the following courses:


  • NUR (0302) 633: Diagnosis & Management of the Adult Across the Lifespan (3 Credits) This three-credit course is the first of three comprehensive courses focusing on diagnosis and management of the primary care adult. Content related to cardiac, respiratory, hematological, dermatological, eyes, ears, nose and throat disorders are emphasized. Complementing this course is the clinical practicum where application of didactic work is integrated.
  • NUR (0302) 764: Advanced Physical Assessment of the Adult (3 Credits) This three-credit course will critically review and analyze health assessment as a model for the development of diagnostic reasoning skills. A regional approach to physical examination will be introduced and practiced and used to develop critical thinking and clinical decision making skills.
  • NUR (0302) 738: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (3 Credits) This course focuses on the necessary skills for promoting health and preventing the onset of disease states in adults. Health promotion and disease prevention evidence-based knowledge will be explored, focusing on clinical application.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • Degree: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Courses: College level Statistics course
  • License: New York state RN license for online verification purposes
  • Other Requirements: Résumé, Personal Statement, and $60 application fee
  • GPA Requirement: 3.0
