Literacy Degree & Certification Options
The Literacy Education master's program prepares students for various careers working with individual students at all literacy levels, including:
- Classroom teacher
- Interventional literacy teacher
- Clinician
- School district supervisor or coordinator of literacy The program also prepares students to take and pass the New York State Teacher's Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) required for their particular area of certification.
Exceptional Hands-On Learning
The program provides hands-on experience in providing literacy assessments and instruction for students entering grades 1-12, both on campus and in neighboring public schools through the Literacy Center.

Courses & Requirements
The program includes various courses and requirements, which can be found in the Plan of Study for the MS in Literacy Education: All Grades and the Plan of Study for the Advanced Certificate in Literacy Education: All Grades.
Master's in Literacy Education Application Requirements
To apply for the Master's in Literacy Education program, students must submit:
- Graduate application and $60 fee
- Online survey completed by two recommenders
- Personal essay
- Official transcripts from all prior institutions and proof of bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution
- Course-by-course evaluation: All graduate applicants with undergraduate-level work completed outside of the United States must send a course-by-course evaluation of their academic work prepared by a NACES member organization.
Additional Requirements for an MS Degree in Literacy
Applicants interested in the Advanced Certificate programs must also submit:
- Final transcript documenting a master's degree from an accredited four-year institution
