Course Programme

The course programme covers a variety of topics related to rabbit and rodent surgery, including:

• Update on current techniques in anaesthesia and analgesia, including intubation techniques
• Common surgical conditions and how to deal with them
• Approach to dental abscesses and extractions, including dental nerve blocks
• Flank ovariohysterectomy/ovariectomy in rats and guinea pigs, abdominal castration of guinea pigs
• Liver lobe torsion surgery
• Partial ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomy
• Nephrectomy

About this Course

This course is designed for individuals who wish to improve their confidence when performing small mammal surgical procedures in first opinion practice. The focus of the practical day will be on procedures that are performed in general practice and will cover a variety of small mammal species.
