MSc Sports Broadcasting

About This Course

This master's degree is practically focused, designed and delivered by sports broadcasting industry professionals to create Sports Broadcasting practitioners and prepare them to be industry ready for employment in sports broadcast journalism and across the sports media industry. The master's degree course has been written in collaboration with broadcast sports journalists from the BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports.


Course Content

The proposed modules on the program include:


  • Television Broadcasting and Sports on Screen (20 credits)
  • Audio and Digital Broadcasting (20 credits)
  • Research Skills in Journalism and Documentary Programs (20 credits)
  • Ethics, Media Law and Landscape (20 credits)
  • Professional Broadcasting Placement (60 credits)
  • Dissertation Document (40 credits)

Learning and Teaching

Course Delivery: A combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and live scenarios with a huge emphasis on developing practical skills and a focus on relevant vocational, career and industry topics, themes and techniques.


Assessment

We assess students in a number of ways; practical portfolios, written essays, presentations, demo tapes, broadcast analysis reports, live scenarios and one exam.

Our graduates now work as reporters, presenters, researchers, content creators, producers, marketing executives and social media managers with a range of broadcasters, brands and governing bodies.


Entry Requirements and How to Apply

Applicants for the MSc in Sports Broadcasting are expected to meet the following requirements:


  • A good honors degree (usually 2.1 or above) preferably in any Sport, Broadcasting, Media or Journalism subject.
  • Or students with grades 2.1 in other subjects, provided they have a passion for sports media and / or digital broadcasting technology and a desire to find and tell interesting sports stories.
