Program Overview

Sustainable Business Program

The Sustainable Business program is offered by the Institute for Business, Sustainability & Society. This unique 12-credit program allows undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or working professionals to earn a formal certificate in the field of sustainable business.

Program Overview

The program adopts a systems approach, equipping participants with cutting-edge knowledge and skills to help organizations become more resilient, competitive, and reputable by embracing sustainable principles and practices. The program is offered at Winchester's main campus and online.

Program Goals

The program aims to train students to lead stakeholder-driven, sustainable businesses that have a positive impact on the economy, society, and the planet. The curriculum focuses on solutions as much as problems, with a unique approach to teaching, research, pedagogical innovation, hands-on entrepreneurship, and experiential learning.

Experiential Learning

Hands-on experiential learning takes two forms: consulting projects with external clients and in-house ventures. Students work on projects with clients such as Quantum Sails and Space for Giants, and participate in in-house ventures like Waste Stream 2 and the Cofan Women's Association.

Scholarship Opportunities

A limited number of prestigious $1500 scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students on a competitive basis.

Internship Possibilities

Students can make a real impact by helping companies integrate sustainability into their business processes. Internship opportunities are available with companies seeking qualified interns to help with the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Career and Salary Possibilities

Sustainability managers identify and assess sustainability requirements, risks, and opportunities, and develop and implement programs to reduce, offset, and reverse adverse environmental and social impacts. Salaries typically range from $75,000-$150,000/year depending on education and experience. Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) oversee the entire portfolio of sustainability projects, manage stakeholder relationships, and embed sustainability into decision-making at all levels. Salaries typically range from $60,000-$200,000/yr depending on education and experience.
