Graduate Admissions

The College of Engineering and Sciences at Purdue University Northwest offers a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering.


Admissions Requirements: Domestic Applicants

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, or a closely related area.


  • If an applicant has a degree in another field but has adequate mathematical preparation, they may be conditionally admitted.
  • The GRE is not required.

Unconditional Admission

The applicant's undergraduate grade point average must meet or exceed 3.0 (B equivalent) on a 4.0 scale.


Conditional Admission

Applicants with an undergraduate grade point average less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale may receive conditional admission.


  • To be allowed to continue in the program, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or better is required upon completion of nine credits.
  • Applicants with a degree in another field must complete undergraduate electrical and computer engineering and math courses, as determined by the department, with a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or better to be considered for full admission.

    • Writing: 18
    • Speaking: 18

  • Students should start the application in their junior year after completion of 65 credits toward the BSEE degree.
  • Applicant must be a current undergraduate student at PNW with a minimum of 65 credits toward the BSEE degree.
  • Minimum of 3.25 GPA.
  • B- or higher grade in all completed Electrical Engineering core courses.

Final Admission

  • Final admission to the graduate program is determined after all course requirements for the BSEE degree have been completed.
  • Nine credits of graduate-level courses, used to satisfy both BSEE and MSECE degree requirements, must be identified on both the undergraduate and graduate Plans of Study and approved by the graduate advisor or the graduate committee of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department prior to the last semester of the undergraduate study.
  • Minimum 3.25 overall GPA.
  • B- or higher grade in all electrical-engineering core courses.
  • B- or higher grade in each of the graduate courses (nine credits) approved for both BSEE and MSECE Plans of Study.
