BSc (Hons) Nursing (Child) with Foundation Year

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Child) with Foundation Year is a four-year full-time course that combines a health foundation year with a Child Nursing degree. This course is designed for students who do not meet the level 3 entry requirements, providing them with the essential skills required to succeed in degree-level education.

Overview

The course begins with a health foundation year, where students learn the key concepts and principles in health and social care. Upon completion of the foundation year, students progress to the Child Nursing degree, developing the skills, confidence, and compassion needed to support children's health and wellbeing from infancy through adolescence.

• Offers of a place can only be made after a successful interview and are subject to a satisfactory reference, health clearance, and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

How You'll Learn

• Teaching and learning techniques include simulated practice learning, lectures, seminars, group work, problem-based learning, and discussion.
• Clinical placements provide hands-on experience, with students working 37.5 hours per week and experiencing a range of shifts.
• Academic input is provided by experienced academics and clinicians, with students allocated a personal academic tutor for support.

How You'll Be Assessed

Assessment methods include coursework, exams, presentations, and practice assessment. The ePAD online system is used to assess practice each year.

Your Future Career

Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and become a registered nurse within the field of child nursing. Career opportunities include working in children's wards, children's hospitals, Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and community services.
