Introduction to the Department of Biomedical Sciences

The Department of Biomedical Sciences provides professional contributions in teaching, basic and applied research, diagnostic service, and continuing education.


Operational Areas

The department has five operational areas:


  • Animal behaviour
  • Physiology, pharmacology and toxicology
  • Cell and molecular biology
  • Neuroscience
  • Endocrinology

Curriculum Overview

In the DVM curriculum, the department presents fourteen courses and five elective rotations annually. The distribution of these courses and rotations across the years is as follows:


  • Nine courses in the first year
  • Two courses in the second year
  • Three courses in the third year Faculty also contribute to two additional elective rotations in the fourth year.

Graduate Program

The Department offers twenty-two courses within the graduate program according to demand; most of these are presented biannually.
