Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering program at the University of Prince Edward Island focuses on engineering design as an engineering discipline in itself. Sustainable design engineers are problem solvers who use design skills, engineering knowledge, math, and science to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions to modern-day problems.
Program Overview
The program provides students with a solid technical foundation that supports the development of their design skills. It also provides the professional skills necessary to succeed as a professional engineer. A unique and innovative design clinic model is integrated throughout all years of the program, where students work on real projects for external partners from the community, municipalities, government, industry, and others.

Student Experience
Students work on real-world problems for partners representing all industries and sectors. The program is designed to provide an intimate, activity-oriented, project-based environment, especially for first-year students. As students progress, they work on more complex projects, including industry-sponsored prototypes capable of deployment for testing in an actual industrial environment.

Course Requirements
The program requires a total of 141 credits, including:
- Core design clinic courses
- Fundamental science, engineering science, and mathematics courses
- Engineering focus area electives
- Complementary studies electives A 60% minimum grade is required in each of the core design clinic courses to proceed to the next course.

Admissions Criteria
For high school applicants, successful completion of Grade 12 examinations in a University Preparatory Program with an overall average of at least 70% is required. Applicants from other institutions must meet the same requirements as high school applicants, as well as the requirements for university transfer students.
Fees and Funding
The undergraduate tuition is the second-lowest in the Atlantic region. International students pay an additional fee. The university offers millions of dollars in scholarships and awards to undergraduate and graduate students.

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is devoted to developing engineers with exceptional design and professional skills combined with a global perspective. The faculty includes experienced professors and instructors who provide a supportive learning environment.
Industry Placement Program
The Industry Placement Program seeks to place students in engineering jobs with industry partners. The program provides a natural extension to the experience gained by students during their progression through the design clinic projects, creating a continuum of education that integrates knowledge and experience in a comprehensive and experiential way. Industry placements can be either up to 4 months in duration during the summer period or for an extended period of up to 16 months for students willing to defer by one year the completion of their degree studies.
