Program Overview


Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) is a doctoral program in clinical psychology designed to prepare students to practice as clinical psychologists. The program is comprised of 18 required classroom courses, 3 colloquium courses, a minimum of 750 hours of practical experience across four practicum courses, a dissertation across four courses, and a full-time, 12-month predoctoral internship considered one course.


Program Overview

The program is infused with a critical lens and focuses on the integration of theory, research, and practice across individual and cultural diversities. It prepares graduates to practice as clinical psychologists who will meet the needs of individuals, couples, and families, as well as broader communities and populations. Students will learn to develop, deliver, and supervise high-quality mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapeutic intervention, and consultation.

Admissions Criteria

Applicants to the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program are required to have an Honours Bachelor's degree in Psychology, including an honours thesis, or an equivalent. A minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4-point scale is normally required. Applicants must also submit:

Application Deadline

All application materials must be received by December 1 of the previous calendar year the student wishes to enter the program.


Fees and Funding

  • Tuition for the Doctor of Psychology program is $40,082 per 4-year program.
  • International students pay $904 per course, in addition to full-time student tuition.
  • The PsyD program currently offers each student funding of $10,000 a year for the first three years for clinical assistantships.

Accreditation

The University of Prince Edward Island's PsyD in Clinical Psychology is accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) for a three-year term.
