University Program Information

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), in partnership with the Department of Education, Government of Nunavut, offers two programs: a Master of Education (MEd) program and a Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN).

Program Overview

The MEd program is a unique partnership between UPEI and the Government of Nunavut, and it is the first graduate program to be offered in Nunavut. This program allows students to stay in their home communities while pursuing a Master's degree. It also provides a bilingual and bicultural environment, using both Inuktitut and English.

Program Structure

The program features a teaching style that uses two or more co-instructors for each course. Some classes also include visiting instructors or special guest speakers, such as local elders and leaders, who provide additional perspective on course material. The content of every course is specifically tailored to focus on the issues and topics relevant to Nunavut.

Support Services

A full-time counselor is present during each class throughout the program, helping students manage the challenges of graduate studies while they are still working and participating in family and community life.
