Program Overview

The program explores Italy's rich cultural heritage and complex social relations in two cities: Rome and Florence. Participants will delve into the ancient roots of the Western world and the modern-day effects of this legacy.

Program Description

This program will provide the necessary perspective for understanding contemporary Italy's complex social dynamics as well as its enduring legacy in the arts, culture, law, and the economy. Students will engage in experiential learning, guided tours, and field experiences, immersing themselves with locals and visiting archaeological, historical, and cultural sites reflecting Italy's rich diversity.


Location Description

The program is set in Rome and Florence, allowing participants to explore the cultural heritage of these two iconic cities.

The program directors are Yamilette Chacon and Richard John Chacon, from the Sociology & Anthropology department.


Accommodations

In Rome, students will stay in a hotel (double or triple occupancy) for 4 nights, while in Florence, they will stay in furnished apartments with AC (2-4 students per apartment) with washing machines and drying racks. Accommodations are centrally located with easy access to public transportation. Meals included are 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 4 dinners.


Additional Items to Consider

  • The program will be conducted in English, and no previous Italian language experience is necessary.
  • Some pre-departure work and at least 3 mandatory meetings are required.
  • Two final assignments are due 12 days after the end of the overseas program.
  • Participants must have a valid passport by April 1, 2026, and if traveling to Italy for less than three months, they do not require a visa.
  • Non-U.S. citizens should contact the appropriate government agency in their home country for relevant passport and visa information.
  • The program is physically active, with expectations of walking and standing for extended periods.
