Industrial Design Program
The Industrial Design program at JMU equips students with the creative problem-solving skills necessary to become innovative design leaders. It empowers students to become positive social, environmental, and economic forces in their communities and professions.
Program Overview
Industrial designers blend art, engineering, business, sociology, and anthropology, studying people and driving consumer behavior. The B.S. degree in Art with a major in Industrial Design requires 78 credit hours in graphic design, art, art history, and art and design-related courses. Of these hours, 42 must be taken in Industrial Design courses.

Industrial Design students study:

- Material science
- Sociological and anthropological research methods
- Systems thinking

- Writing
- Design theory They also receive exposure to basic engineering, advanced manufacturing and fabrication processes, and common marketing, business, and entrepreneurship practices.
