The M.Ed. in Mathematics is a low-cost program offered completely online through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous courses. The program provides graduates with opportunities for exciting career advances, such as teaching advanced secondary mathematics courses or college mathematics courses.
Program Details
- The program is designed for practicing secondary teachers of mathematics, but it is not a requirement for admission.
- Anyone with interest in deepening their understanding of mathematics and exploring current educational theories and practices is encouraged to apply, including international students.
- Please note: this program does NOT lead to initial licensure.
Admission Requirements
- All applicants need to have completed at least 15 credits of undergraduate mathematics, including a calculus sequence and linear algebra.
- An undergraduate major in mathematics or additional mathematics courses beyond linear algebra will be helpful, but not necessary.
Admission Deadlines
- For those applying for a fall semester, completed applications must be submitted by July 15.
- For those applying for a spring semester, completed applications must be submitted by December 1.
- For those applying for a summer semester, completed applications must be submitted by April 15.
Program Cost
- For an in-state student, the current total cost of the M.Ed. is $11,322 ($333 per credit hour).
- For an out-of-state student, the current total cost of the M.Ed. is $11,356 ($334 per credit hour).
- These rates are subject to change from year to year.
Program Structure
- A total of 34 credits are required for the M.Ed. in Mathematics; 21 credits of graduate-level mathematics that emphasize connections to secondary mathematics and 13 credits of education courses that emphasize pedagogy and practice.
- Typically, students can finish all 34 credits in 2 ス - 3 years by taking 1-2 courses per semester.
Culminating Project/Experience
- During one of the final semesters in the program, students will complete a one-credit capstone course, EDUC 631, which involves a written and oral reflection of the entire program under the guidance of an assigned advisor.
