Program Overview
The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program is offered online.
Application Deadline
The application cycle opens on September 15, and the application deadline is January 15. A CSDCAS application (status of complete or verified) and JMU supplemental application must be received by January 15th to be considered for admission to the program. General admissions decisions will be communicated in early March.
Admission Requirements
- A minimum 3.25 overall GPA and major GPA are required for admission.
- GREs are no longer required for application.
- GA/TA funding is not available for online/part-time students.
Program Begins
The program begins in the summer semester.
Transcripts
If admitted to the program, official transcripts from all institutions from which a degree has been awarded must be submitted. Transcripts must be sent to JMU Graduate School directly from the issuing institution.
Application Process
The application process involves two steps:
- Step One: Complete the CSDCAS application, including:
- A clinical scenario essay
- A video response
- Experiences and achievements sections
- Official transcripts
- Two letters of recommendation
- Step Two: Complete a supplemental application to the JMU Graduate School after receiving a status of Complete or Verified in CSDCAS.
Important Application Details
- Applications to both the Graduate School and CSDCAS must be submitted by January 15th.
- A status of Complete or Verified in CSDCAS is required to be considered for admission.
JMU Supplemental Application
- The application fee may be waived for a limited number of applicants to the online program.
International Applicants
International applicants must meet the program requirements and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification requirements, including supervision of all clinical experiences by an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist. This program is offered online only, and visas to study in the United States can only be issued for primarily in-person programs.
Licensure/Certification
The program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requirements vary by state and are subject to change.
