Program Overview
Introduction to the Master of Political Science Program
The Master of Political Science program is a 10-month graduate program based in Florence, Italy. This practitioner-centered program aims to develop expertise in the politics of policymaking and policy analysis, expand personal and cultural horizons, and build a professional network with roots in the United States and Europe.
Program Overview
While a prior background in political science and/or European studies is useful, the program is designed to accommodate students from other fields of study. The program focuses on developing skills in policy analysis and policymaking, as well as expanding cultural and professional horizons.
Admission Requirements
To apply to the program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Qualification: An undergraduate degree received by the program's start date.
- Language Proficiency: International applicants whose undergraduate degrees are not from English-language institutions should have a TOEFL iBT score of at least 80 or an IELTS overall score of at least 6.5.
- Official Documentation: Official transcripts of all undergraduate coursework and any previous graduate coursework.
- Recommendation Letters: Two current recommendation letters from professors qualified to judge the applicant's ability to complete graduate studies.
- Personal Statement: A single-spaced, 1-2 page statement describing educational and professional background and future educational and professional goals.
- Statement of Language Proficiency & Prior International Experience: A statement indicating the extent of study of at least one language other than English and summarizing experiences living and/or traveling outside of the United States.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae: An updated resume or curriculum vitae.
- Writing Sample: A writing sample that showcases the ability to carry out academic and/or policy-relevant research, 5 pages or longer in single-spaced formatting or 10 pages or longer in double-spaced formatting.
Application Process
The application process involves submitting the required documents and materials via the online application system. The Admissions Committee conducts a holistic review of every application to assess each student's capabilities for success in the program.
Important Dates and Deadlines
- Sunday, February 15, 2026: Priority application deadline for the academic year. Applicants who apply by this date are eligible to apply for graduate assistantships.

Assistantships
For the academic cycle, there will be two to four graduate program assistantships tied directly to the program, each providing approximately $10,000 in financial assistance. Interested applicants should consult the assistantship page for more information and application instructions. Assistantship applications are due by no later than Friday, February 27, 2026, and will only be accepted from students who submitted their admission applications by the February 15th deadline.
