Program Overview

The Educational Leadership Certificate program is designed for individuals who have completed at least a master's degree. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, with deadlines for Spring and Fall admission.

Application Deadline

• For Spring admission: December 1
• For Fall admission: July 15 Applications temporarily close for maintenance following the deadline and reopen for consideration for the next academic year on December 21 and August 4 respectively.

Program Begins

The program begins in Spring and Fall.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with the electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, official transcripts from any institution from which a degree has been awarded must be submitted to finalize admission.

Required by Program

• Resume
• Personal statement regarding professional goals and how the new degree or additional credential will assist in meeting these goals
• Postgraduate Professional License required
• Two Letters of Recommendation (school administrator and instructional)
  • Recommenders will receive an email asking for their recommendation Additional requirements include:
  • Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better
  • Valid teaching license or documentation of professional employment in the field
  • Three years of full-time teaching (or equivalent) experience in a school setting Students who did not complete an M.Ed. degree as their master's program must take EDUC 641 or equivalent as a prerequisite prior to admission.

Licensure/Certification

This concentration meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requirements vary by state and are subject to change.

International Applicants
