The Middle Education Academic Programs include Middle Education Secondary Education. The university offers Graduate Programs, Add-on Endorsements, and Minors.
The Teacher Education Program
The Teacher Education Program has specific requirements for admission.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Teacher Education Program, applicants must submit various documents. These include:
- ALEKS math placement scores
- Praxis Core Math scores
- SAT or ACT scores
- Cumulative JMU GPA
- Courses taken at JMU
- Official transcripts with final grades posted for courses taken at other institutions, such as WRTC 103, PSYC 160, or EDUC 200
Transfer Credits
Approved transfer credits will be posted to the applicant's JMU transcript.
Professional References
Applicants must submit contact information for two professional references.
Training Certificates
Applicants must submit certificates for:
- CPR/First Aid/AED
- Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Training
- Cultural Competency Training
Self-Assessment
Applicants must complete a self-assessment of professional dispositions aligned with the 10 InTASC standards for teachers.
Application Process
Applicants can still apply to the Teacher Education program even if they have not taken EDUC 200, PSYC 160, or WRTC 103. However, admission to the program will not be granted until all requirements are completed. After completing the initial step, application items can be submitted in any order.
