Break Description

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, communities across Western North Carolina face unique challenges when it comes to housing stability. The Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, a faith-driven nonprofit, has been walking alongside these communities for years, offering hope and practical support by repairing and rebuilding homes for those who need it most.

During the visit to Black Mountain, participants will help with construction and repair projects such as painting, installing flooring or drywall, and adding finishing touches that make a house feel like home. Each project helps create a lasting foundation for families to thrive while deepening the understanding of housing equity and community resilience in rural Appalachia.

Participants should be ready for active, physical work that may include lifting, bending, and using tools, but no construction experience is required. They should bring their curiosity, teamwork, and flexibility, as each day's projects may look a little different depending on community needs.

Evenings will offer time to cook together, share reflections, and connect with local residents and volunteers who are helping build stronger, more connected communities across the mountains of Western North Carolina.
