Overview
The Accelerated Education Specialist Mild/Moderate Support Needs Preliminary Credential for Established Teachers is a 2-semester program designed for teachers who hold a valid preliminary or clear Multiple or Single Subject credential. This program is intended for Education Specialist interns.
Admission Requirements
- Completed admission application and application fee
- Official transcripts from all institutions attended
- A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a preferred GPA of 2.75 or above in undergraduate work and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in any graduate work
- Statement of purpose:
- Write a statement of purpose addressing the following points:
- Your reasons for entering the teaching profession
- Any personal or professional experiences and/or qualifications related to your intended field of study
- Your perspectives on the relevance and role of cultural competence in teaching
- Your statement should be approximately 500-words in length and typewritten
- Write a statement of purpose addressing the following points:
- One letter of recommendation from individuals qualified to objectively evaluate the candidate's potential to be a competent educator
- The letter must be from an individual who can knowledgeably comment on academic skills, employment/volunteer experience, leadership potential, and professional abilities
- Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST or Equivalent)
- Current TB Clearance
- Hold a Preliminary or Clear Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential
- Be intern eligible upon program enrollment
- Must obtain an intern position in a Mild/Moderate Support Needs setting by the second semester of the program
- Candidates with a Preliminary credential must have a passing score on the TPAs, or they must pass the TPAs with SPED 497A Introduction to Directed Teaching - Mild/Moderate Accelerated Pathway and SPED 498A Advanced Directed Teaching - Mild/Moderate Accelerated Pathway
Program Requirements
The program consists of 17 semester hours. The course list includes:
- SPED 420: Foundations of Inclusive Education (3 semester hours)
- SPED 421: Literacy Assessment and Intervention Practicum (1 semester hour)
- SPED 422: Literacy Assessment and Intervention Practicum (2 semester hours)
- SPED 430: Assessment Practices and IEP Development (3 semester hours)
- SPED 450: Inclusive Educational Systems - Law, Behavior and Case Management (3 semester hours)
- SPED 497A: Introduction to Directed Teaching - Mild/Moderate Accelerated Pathway (3 semester hours)
- SPED 498A: Advanced Directed Teaching - Mild/Moderate Accelerated Pathway (3 semester hours) Total Semester Hours: 17
