The University of La Verne is recognized by SHRM to offer the SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential program. This course is ideal for anyone who deals with employees in California, providing directions for navigating the complexities of California Employment Law.

The SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential program addresses five key Human Resource Management topics specifically for California, in a combination of Instructor-led modules and SHRM e-Learning subjects in a user-friendly format designed to give an effective learning experience:
- California HR: Applying CA Law to Employment Practices (15 Hours)
- Four comprehensive SHRM eLearning courses on California-specific topics: (10 hours)
- California Wage and Hour Laws
- California Leaves of Absence
- California Privacy, Security, Health and Safety
- California Benefits
Course Benefits
The SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential program provides participants with knowledge and skills that can be used immediately and is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to:
- Accurately apply California wage and hour rules and regulations
- Accurately apply California benefits and worker's compensation rules and regulations
- Adhere to key regulations impacting employee/employer relations in California
- Accurately apply California regulations regarding leaves of absence when calculating employee leave
- Interpret and apply California employment regulations regarding security, safety, and privacy
Specialty Credential
To earn the SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential, participants must:
- Complete all 5 Modules of the University of La Verne's SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential program, which includes:
- California HR: Applying CA Law to Employment Practices SeminarInstructor Led (15 hours)
- Four comprehensive SHRM eLearning courses on California-specific topics:
- California Wage and Hour Laws
- California Leaves of Absence
- California Privacy, Security, Health and Safety
- California Benefits
- Pass a 51-question online California knowledge assessment
Eligibility and Professional Development Credits
You do not have to be SHRM-certified to earn the SHRM California Employment Law Micro-Credential; however, you will receive 25 PDCs toward your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification upon completion of the Micro-Credential package. The University of La Verne is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM.
Program Schedule and Fees
The program is offered on various dates with virtual live sessions. The course fee is $1,999, which includes all in-class and online course material plus the SHRM California Employment Law Specialty Credential Assessment and Credential. Cancellations are permitted, but any cancellation will incur a $100 cancellation fee in addition to the non-refundable $850 materials fee.
