Program Overview


Introduction to the Bilingual Authorization for Spanish Program

The Bilingual Authorization for Spanish Program, offered by the LaFetra College of Education, is designed for holders of Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Educational Specialist teaching credentials. This program aims to meet the growing need for dual language educators and supports the statewide Global 2030 California Initiative.


Program Overview

  • The program is designed to align with the teaching schedule of its students, allowing for hands-on learning and immediate application of new insights in the classroom.
  • Fieldwork is a critical component, requiring immersion into a multilingual classroom with 21 hours of fieldwork experience (7 hours per course).
  • Demonstration of Spanish proficiency is mandatory, either through a passing score on CSET: Spanish subtest III (test code 147) or a passing grade in SPAN 414 Spanish Composition & Advanced Grammar or EDUC 431 for non-degree students.

Coursework

All courses require an active teaching credential or active enrollment in a teaching credential program with LaFetra College of Education.
