Introduction to the Single Subject Credential Program

The University of La Verne's Single Subject Credential Program is designed for individuals passionate about teaching specific subjects to middle and high school students. This program provides the necessary expertise, experience, and credentials to thrive as a secondary education teacher, with an emphasis on hands-on learning and real-world experience in secondary classrooms.

Program Overview

• The program allows students to become intern-eligible after completing just one semester of coursework and meeting the state credential requirements.
• This eligibility enables students to gain valuable teaching experience in their subject area while continuing their studies.

Single Subject Curriculum

The curriculum includes the following courses:

• EDUC 427: Language and Literacy, Single Subject (4 semester hours)
• EDUC 428: Introductory Teaching Practices, Single Subject (4 semester hours)
• EDUC 442: Intermediate Teaching Practices, Single Subject (4 semester hours)
• EDUC 443: Advanced Teaching Practices, Single Subject (4 semester hours)
• Select one of the following subject-specific pedagogy courses:
