Program Overview

Health Administration (BS)

The Bachelor of Science in Health Administration program prepares students for positions of increased responsibility in health and health-related organizations. In this comprehensive program, students will be trained to analyze problems with a greater critical awareness and apply sound methods of statistical and financial control. They will also learn the necessary knowledge and skills to assume supervisory and mid-management positions in health organizations.

• Total program: 40-44 semester hours
• Core Requirements: 28 semester hours

    • HSM 400: Introduction to the US Health Care System (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 401: Leadership and Management in Health Services (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 405: Ethical & Legal Issues in Health Services Management (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 409: Communications in Health Services Organizations (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 415: Budgeting & Fin Mgmt in HSOs (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 445: Foundations of Public Health (4 semester hours)
    • HSM 496: Senior Seminar: Culminating Program Summary (4 semester hours)

Electives/Concentrations

• 12-16 semester hours
• Students can choose a concentration in Long Term Care Administration or four electives from any HSM 400 level prefixed course.

  • HSM 441: Managing Quality & Safety in Long Term Care Settings (3 semester hours)

• Total Semester Hours: 12
• Note: Students desiring to take the California LTCA state licensing exam will be required to have 1,000 hours of internship experience in an LTC setting. These internship hours can be taken concurrently with BSHA coursework.
