Integrated Language Arts Education Program
The Integrated Language Arts Education program at Ohio Dominican University prepares students to teach English Literature and Composition in grades 7-12.
Program Highlights
- Major leads to teaching licensure.
- Double licensure option with Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist within 4-years.
- Licensure-only option for students who already have a bachelor's degree.
- In addition to critical reading and writing skills, students learn to make connections between literature and the world around them.
- Students learn through hands-on experience, spending more than 450 hours in the classroom during the program.

The program includes a range of courses that provide students with a comprehensive understanding of English Literature and Composition, as well as the skills and knowledge needed to teach these subjects effectively.

The Integrated Language Arts Education program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and the National Council of Teachers of English.

The Education Field Office organizes and administers all field and clinical experiences in the teacher education programs, providing students with quality and diverse field experiences.
Teacher and Principal Professional Licensure Information
The program satisfies the academic requirements for teacher licensure programs at the Bachelor's degree and Post-Baccalaureate level set forth by the State of Ohio. Graduates are eligible to sit for the appropriate Ohio Assessment for Educators exam.
Initial Licensure Transition Points and Policies
The program has several transition points that students must complete in order to progress through the program. These include:
- Prior to Transition Point 1: Pre-Professional Stage
- BCII Checks to participate in Introduction to Teaching field experience
- Syllabus for Introduction to Teaching courses states the BCII checks requirement for the course and field experience
- Transition Point 1: Admissions to Professional Education
- Purchase TK20 and completion of application through TK20
- Admission Essay (Effective Teacher in 21st Century)
- C or better (C+ or better, beginning 2014 Fall) in Introduction to Teaching
- Three faculty recommendations
- GPA 2.5 [2.75, beginning 2014 Fall]
- Praxis I test: Passing Scores
- Transition Point 3: Program Completion
- Completion of all program requirements with a 2.500 GPA
- Successful completion of student teaching
- Successful completion of edTPA
- Transition Point 4: Teacher Licensure
- Completion of all program requirements with a 2.500 GPA
- Submitting a positive BCII report to the Ohio Department of Education
