Introduction to the Pathfinders Program

The Pathfinders Program is designed to cater to the needs of individuals recovering from an acquired brain injury (ABI) or stroke. This program offers a range of exercise classes and activities tailored to support the physical and cognitive rehabilitation of its participants.


Program Overview

The Pathfinders Program includes the following courses:


  • HEALTH E63 Body Conditioning After a Stroke: This course aims to improve balance, mobility, and physical endurance in a group setting.
  • HUMDEV E50 Communication After a Stroke: This course focuses on enhancing and maintaining daily speech function for adults who have experienced speech impairments due to ABI.
  • HUMDEV E55 BrainFlex: Designed for individuals dealing with cognitive deficits, this course provides individualized feedback in a group setting to maintain or improve functional cognition.

Course Details

HEALTH E63 Body Conditioning After a Stroke

This course is tailored for older adults who have experienced an acquired brain injury, helping them maintain or improve their mobility and physical endurance. The program is individualized and offered in a group setting, covering topics such as coping with the effects of brain injury or stroke and restoring natural energy and flexibility.

HUMDEV E50 Communication After a Stroke

This course is part of the Pathfinders Program and is designed to increase, enhance, and maintain the daily speech function of adults who have experienced speech impairments due to acquired brain injury. Participants learn to cope with the effects of stroke or other brain injury on communication skills and receive support and guidance from professionals.

HUMDEV E55 BrainFlex

Registration and Participation

Interested students are required to contact the SMC Center for Students with Disabilities ABI Program for registration details. Registration is completed through the SMC Center for Students with Disabilities, and participants cannot enroll in the Pathfinders classes without first contacting the center.
