About the Program
Invasive Cardiovascular Technology prepares students to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease and structural heart conditions. Working in a cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab), Invasive CVT professionals are part of a highly specialized team performing procedures that restore blood flow and improve cardiac function.
Program Details
Students learn to assist with coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary interventions (including balloon angioplasty and stent placement), plaque removal procedures, right heart catheterizations, and structural heart interventions. Training also includes patient preparation, sterile technique, hemodynamic monitoring, and direct patient care throughout diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Prerequisites
Students may apply to the Associate of Applied Science program while completing prerequisite coursework. However, all required prerequisites must be successfully completed prior to official admission into the program.
- BIO 221 Anatomy & Physiology I
- ENG 105 The Art of Writing
- MATH 210 Introductory Statistics
- PHIL 321 Ethics in Healthcare
- BIO 222 Anatomy & Physiology II
- PSY 101 or SOC 351 Introduction to Psychology or Medical Sociology
Career Opportunities
Invasive Cardiovascular Technologists work in cardiac catheterization laboratories, hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, and specialty cardiovascular facilities. Professionals in this field assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures, operate advanced imaging and monitoring systems, and provide direct patient care before, during, and after procedures. With cardiovascular disease remaining a leading health concern nationwide, demand for skilled invasive cardiovascular technologists continues to grow.
