Introduction to the Program

The Samhðllsplanering - urban och regional utveckling - Kandidatprogram is a three-year undergraduate program that focuses on understanding how places and people interact. The program explores how the design of cities and regions affects society and nature, and it provides students with the tools to address the major challenges of our time.

About the Program

The program has a social science foundation and shows how place and spatial form affect people's daily lives. Students also become familiar with urban and regional planning from natural science, technical, and creative perspectives through various course modules and guest lectures. The program combines theory with practical elements such as project work, field studies, and study visits, giving students a deeper understanding of how urban and regional planners work in practice.

Under the Program

The program provides a broad introduction to human geography and trains students' analytical skills through field studies and practical exercises with geographic information systems (GIS). During the program, students will:

• Learn the basics of human geography and urban and regional planning
• Study urban development from ecological, economic, and social perspectives
• Participate in several project works and field studies to explore how urban and regional planning works in practice

Career and Future

The program provides a broad foundation for working as an urban and regional planner, investigator, or analyst for sustainable development, urban planning, or regional issues. These competencies are in demand by both public and private actors with a focus on community building - in Sweden and abroad. After graduation, students can also pursue further studies at an advanced level, for example, in human geography, urban development, or spatial analysis.

• Basic eligibility + Social Science 1b or 1a1 + 1a2. Alternatively: Social Science level 1b or level 1a2

Selection

Seats are allocated according to: Grades: 66%, Higher Education Entrance Exam: 34%. The university has decided to use a valid higher education entrance exam result as a tiebreaker for equal merits.

Tuition Fees

• Free of charge for citizens within the EU
• Total price for the program/course: 375,000 SEK for citizens outside the EU/EES/Switzerland
• First payment: 62,500 SEK

Application Fee
