Course Description

The course focuses on existential resilience, which is the ability to create and experience meaning, beauty, and togetherness even in times of crisis, loss, and difficulty. It provides theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of how art and aesthetics can be a resource for promoting existential resilience.

About the Course

The course is interdisciplinary and research-based, combining perspectives from the humanities with research results in medicine and sustainability research. It covers topics such as aesthetic empathy, presence, meaning-making, and fantasy, as well as the question of how existential resilience connects the individual, collective, and planetary levels of human life.

The literature list is preliminary and may be changed up to eight weeks before the course starts.

During the Course

The course combines distance education, in the form of online lectures and seminars, with on-site workshops during a one-day visit to Lund University. The pedagogy is based on student-centered learning, where students are encouraged to engage in their own and other students' learning processes. Parts of the pedagogical method for both online and on-site teaching are inspired by Object-Based Learning (OBL).

Selection

• In the first instance, a place is given to applicants who have applied on time and are registered for an education at Lund University the term before this course.
• In the second instance, places are allocated as follows: Grades 34%, Higher Education Entrance Exam 34%, and the number of previous higher education credits on the last application date (up to 165) 32%. In the event of equal merit, selection is made based on the Higher Education Entrance Exam. If this is also equal, the selection is made by lottery.
