Program Overview

Teoretisk Fysik: Fluiddynamik

Course Description

The course "Teoretisk Fysik: Fluiddynamik" (Theoretical Physics: Fluid Dynamics) is a 7.5 credit course at the undergraduate level. It focuses on understanding how fluids and gases move and why this is important for everything from weather to space.

Course Content

During the course, students learn to use mathematical tools to describe how fluids and gases move in small and large systems, such as water in channels, the Earth's atmosphere, and oceans. They also gain an understanding of how rotation affects flows, for example, on a spinning planet. The course is suitable for those interested in the applications of physics in meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy.

Teaching Methods

The teaching consists of lectures and calculation exercises where students practice solving problems and applying theory in practice, both independently and together with others. During the course, students submit mandatory assignments that are assessed. Performing well on these assignments can lead to extra points on the final written exam.
