Program Overview
Computational Science, Physics - Master Programme
The Computational Science, Physics - Master Programme is a 2-year, 120-credit program that combines computational science with the fascinating world of physics. This program teaches students how to generate and store large volumes of data and use data science to search for patterns, correlations, and trends in issues related to physics.
Overview
The program gives students specialized knowledge in the field of computational science, while also being interdisciplinary in character. Students gain insight into complex processes within physics and how computational science can contribute to knowledge development in society. They learn how to use numerical simulations and machine learning to make forecasts and analyses, or to replace experiments.
Teaching and Learning
The proportion of teacher-directed learning is high, and students gain experience in collaborating in groups. The program is offered in English. Students can study this program even if they do not have a bachelor's degree in physics. The course structure then gives them an education in physics at first and second-cycle level, focusing on the interaction between numerical methods and theoretical models.
Career Prospects
Advanced computations are increasingly important in research and business, as well as in other sectors of society. Hence, graduates of the program can embark on several different career paths. The master's program gives students a solid foundation for third-cycle education in science, but also prepares them for a career within industry or business.

- Environmental and climate changes
Computers in the Program
- The program requires that students have access to a computer, preferably a laptop, on which they can install software mainly provided by the University
- It can be either a Windows computer or a Macintosh computer
- On some courses, students may need to buy or rent their own software
Conditions in the Study Environment
- The program contains compulsory elements that require students to be able to work independently and safely in a laboratory environment, in a hospital environment, in workshops, in production facilities, or during study visits and field studies
- These elements require the ability to comply with safety regulations, rules, and instructions, and to move around in and evacuate premises safely
