Program Overview
Program Overview
The program in question is "Världsbyggande i olika medier," which translates to "World-Building in Different Media." It is a course offered at a university, focusing on the art of creating immersive worlds in various forms of media, including TV series, computer games, and audio productions.
Course Description
Världsbyggande is the art of creating a world that the audience wants to enter and stay in. This course provides a broad introduction to how different narrative media use methods to form such worlds. Students study fundamental concepts in world-building and dramaturgy and see how they are used in TV series, computer games, and sound walks.
Course Structure
The course begins with a lecture on central concepts in world-building and dramaturgy. This is followed by conversations with professional screenwriters, game developers, and performing artists who share their working methods. Students have the opportunity to compare these methods with examples from assigned works in TV, games, and audio. The course concludes with a seminar where students deepen their analysis of the methods and relate them to the course's reference material.
After the Course
After completing the course, students can analyze and understand different ways to create fictional worlds and see how professional storytellers work in different media. This provides a good knowledge base for further education or work in performing arts, games, film, TV, or sound production, where understanding world-building and dramaturgy is central.
