Overview

In this course, students write an independent master's thesis in sociology. They formulate their own research question, apply relevant theories and methods, and engage with the latest developments in the field. The work should demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of the subject.

The Department of Sociology

The course is offered by the Department of Sociology in the picturesque Paradiset campus area in Lund. The building combines modern lecture halls, group rooms, and study spaces – just a short walk from the Social Sciences Library (Sambib) and the University Library (UB), several popular cafés, and the city centre.

Teaching and Learning

Much of the course involves working independently. Teaching mainly consists of individual supervision. The supervisor provides guidance with planning and structure, but students are responsible for completing the thesis within the specified timeframe.

After the Course

Requirements and Selection

Prerequisites

For admission to the course, a Bachelor's degree in Sociology or equivalent is required, plus 30 second-cycle credits in Sociology or the equivalent, as well as 30 second-cycle credits in research methodology and/or theory of knowledge (of which at least 15 credits at advanced level).

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100%.
