Pre-Dental Program
Program Overview
Introduction to the Pre-Dental Program
The Pre-Dental Program at Southeast Missouri State University is designed for students who aspire to pursue a career in dentistry. Although pre-dentistry is not a major at the university, students can gain preparation for Missouri dental schools while pursuing any academic major.
Program Overview
Most students find that the biology coursework required by dental schools, and for preparation for the DAT, makes the biomedical sciences option in biology an attractive major. The Biology: Biomedical Sciences option is designed especially for students in the pre-health professions. Students will work with the pre-dental advisor during their first semester at Southeast.
Program Requirements
To complete the undergraduate degree, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, including the general education requirements and at least 39 senior division hours.
Career Opportunities
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean annual salary for a dentist is $196,100, while a dentist specialist can earn up to $246,530 per year. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon can earn a mean annual salary of $360,240.
Hands-on Learning
Students in the Pre-Dental Program will gain hands-on real-world experience through research opportunities and internships. The university's Career Services office is available to help students with the next step in their career.
