Program Overview

Elementary Education, BS

The Elementary Education program is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching. The program requires a total of 77-78 credits.

Course Requirements

The following courses are required for the Elementary Education major:

• ED 101: Introduction to Education and Lab (3 credits)
• ED 102: Technology: Classroom Applications & Portfolio (2 credits)
• ED 251: Introduction to Child Growth & Development (3 credits)
• ED 418: Kindergarten Methods & LAB (3 credits)
• MATH 110: College Algebra (3 credits)
• MATH 129: Mathematics for Elementary Education 1 (3 credits)
• SPED 290: Introduction to Special Needs and Lab (3 credits)
• ED 312: Human Relations for Teachers (3 credits)
• OR SOCI 331: Racial & Ethnic Relations

Student Teaching

12 credits of student teaching are required for a semester-length experience:

• ED 463: Student Teaching: PreK - Grade 6 (12 credits)
• OR ED 464: Student Teaching: K - Grade 8

• Prerequisite: MATH 110 College Algebra (3 credits) must be taken prior to enrolling in MATH 129 Mathematics for Elementary Education (3 credits).
