Introduction to SEAS Study Abroad Options
Gonzaga University offers various study abroad programs, allowing students to gain a global perspective while staying on track with their degree program. These programs are designed to fit into existing curriculum and requirements, providing students with a unique opportunity to explore different cultures and academic environments.
Semester Programs
Semester programs are typically taken in the spring of sophomore year. Interested students must apply the summer before sophomore year. These programs are designed to allow students to complete their degree in 4 years.
Gonzaga in Florence
The Gonzaga in Florence program takes place every spring semester, with professors from engineering programs teaching courses specifically designed to fit into most engineering students' existing curriculum and requirements. This program enables students to complete their degree in 4 years while gaining valuable international experience.
Summer Faculty-Led Programs
Gonzaga offers several summer faculty-led programs, including:
- Gonzaga in Berlin: Explore code cracking and technology of WWII and beyond in the City of Spies. This program is held on odd years.
- Gonzaga in Delft: Tour the sustainable cities of the Netherlands to explore their approach to environmental impact and resource management. This program is held on even years.
- Gonzaga in Limerick: Dive into sustainable product development in Spokane's Irish Sister City, Limerick.
Other Engineering and Computer Science Programs
Additional study abroad options are available for engineering and computer science students, including:
- Study in Madrid: GU electrical and computer engineering sophomores can take a spring semester with the St. Louis University program.
- Study in Auckland: The University of Auckland at the northern tip of New Zealand has challenging programs for SEAS majors.
Other Programs
The Center for Community Engagement can connect students with other study abroad programs, although these may require additional time to finish their degree. Students are advised to talk with their advisor to determine which study abroad programs are right for them.
