Program Overview

Introduction to the GUST Summer Program

The Gonzaga University Summer Term (GUST) is a 6-week program designed to provide incoming freshmen with an opportunity to get a head start on their academic career. This program offers a wide variety of courses, allowing students to begin their college journey with confidence.

Program Details

GUST provides structure and support for students enrolled in first-year courses, enabling them to get ahead and potentially lighten their course load during their first full academic year. As a GUST student, participants will take courses during the regularly scheduled Summer Session II and receive academic support services to help them choose their courses for both summer session and the fall term.

Available Courses

Courses offered through the GUST program include, but are not limited to:

  • Precalculus (MATH 147)
  • Writing and Composition (ENGL 101)
  • Communication and Speech (COMM 100)
  • Literature (ENGL 102-287)
  • History (US History or World Civilizations)

Advantages of GUST

The advantages of participating in the GUST program include:

  • Getting a great head start on college careers
  • Studying in small, intense classes in a supportive and fun environment
  • Networking with faculty, administrators, and fellow students early in their academic careers
  • Receiving individualized academic advising
  • Planning in advance for studies abroad, teacher certification, double majors, and other scheduling complexities
  • Learning about campus and community resources, including employment and service opportunities

Program Cost

The cost for GUST includes a reduced tuition rate and other student account fees. The program cost does not include additional charges for lab fees, books, or supplies.

Planning Your Course Schedule

Students will work with the Office of Academic Advising and Assistance (AAA) to choose classes during the GUST Program. If students have college credit for any courses, academic advisors will present other options that fulfill degree requirements on an individual basis.
