Program Overview
Physics Minor Program
The Physics Minor Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of physics principles and concepts. The program requires a total of 27 hours of coursework, including both lower and upper division courses.
Program Requirements
To satisfy the minor, students must complete the following requirements:
- Lower Division:
- PHYS 121 & 121L: Physics I and Physics I Lab (5 hours)
- PHYS 122 & 122L: Physics II and Physics II Lab (5 hours)
- PHYS 224: Modern Physics (3 hours)
- MATH 157: Calculus and Analytic Geometry I (4 hours)
- MATH 258: Calculus and Analytic Geometry II (4 hours)
- Upper Division:
- Select six credits from the following courses:
- PHYS 222: Electronics
- PHYS 321: Classical Mechanics
- Other upper division courses (with prior Department Chair approval)
- Select six credits from the following courses:
Additional Requirements
To complete the minor, at least one of the chosen electives must be a 300 or 400 level 3-credit course. With prior Department Chair approval, the following courses may count toward the minor:
- PHYS 390: Directed Study
- PHYS 490: Advanced Directed Study
- PHYS 497: Internship
- PHYS 499: Senior Project Additionally, with prior Department Chair approval, PHYS 201: Mathematical Methods may satisfy two credits toward the minor.
