Master of Radiotherapy and Oncology/BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology

The Master of Radiotherapy and Oncology/BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology is a four-year undergraduate master's/BSc (Hons) degree course that equips students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills necessary for a rewarding career as a therapeutic radiographer.


Course Overview

Teaching, Learning, and Assessment

  • Placements are an integral part of the course, with students completing practice placements in each year.

Placements

  • Placements take place across Scotland, and students may need to relocate for at least some of their practice-based learning.
  • QMU manages the sourcing and allocation of placements for each student.
  • Additional costs associated with placements, such as travel and accommodation, are the responsibility of the student.

Specialist Facilities

  • QMU offers a range of modern specialist spaces for radiotherapy and oncology courses.
  • Facilities include a clinical planning suite, positioning lasers, and immobilisation equipment.
  • Students have access to anatomical models and can use these during self-directed study sessions.

Careers

Professional Registration/Accreditation

  • Successful completion enables students to apply for registration with the HCPC as a therapeutic radiographer, which is essential for employment in the UK.

Entry Requirements

  • Scottish Higher: Standard - BBBC, Minimum - BCCC
  • A Level: BCC
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H2 H3 H3 H3
  • International Baccalaureate: 28 points
  • International: IELTS of 6.0 with no element lower than 6.0
  • Required subjects: One science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) at grade C or above at Higher/A Level or equivalent, plus English, Maths, and a science at grade C or above at Nat 5/GCSE

  • Special note on RUK and ROI fees: Students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland, who are subject to Rest of UK fees, will be charged for the first three years of study only. The fourth year is free.
  • Other costs: The cost of professional indemnity insurance, placement travel and accommodation, uniform, PVG, and badge costs are the responsibility of the student.
