Introduction to the MSc Therapeutic Radiography (Pre-Registration) Program

The MSc Therapeutic Radiography (pre-registration) is a two-year, full-time, qualifying course for graduates with a suitable and relevant first degree, providing an accelerated route into the profession. This program is designed for individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality patient care and are interested in the technical aspects of radiotherapy.

Program Overview

Therapeutic Radiography is a challenging but immensely rewarding career, which offers a combination of science, technology, and patient care. As a therapeutic radiographer, you will be responsible for preparing and administering radiation to cancer patients, operating highly technical radiation equipment, imaging patients with the latest technology, monitoring patients' progress, and giving advice as they progress through radiotherapy treatment.

What's Covered in This Course?

The MSc Therapeutic Radiography (pre-registration) course covers oncology, radiotherapy technology, and psychosocial issues surrounding cancer care. You will learn to work with patients of all ages, helping to relieve and/or cure the symptoms of their cancer. As the largest education center for therapeutic radiography across the West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Worcestershire, this course will prepare you to be a fully qualified Therapeutic Radiographer once you have graduated.

Accreditation

This course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council, and upon successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for registration.

Essential Requirements

• A 2:1 honors degree in a relevant subject such as anatomy, human biology, biomedical science, and psychology.
• GCSE English Language or English Literature and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
• Completion of relevant safeguarding checks for this course.
• Any offer of a place is subject to satisfactory performance at interview.

This professional qualification enables you to gain employment within the wider NHS. You will develop competence in the safe and effective operation of cutting-edge medical technologies and autonomous practice skills, including decision-making and care provision. Upon graduation, you can seek professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and membership with the Society of Radiographers.

Facilities and Staff

Birmingham City University has invested over Ł500 million in its facilities, including upgrades to the Skills and Simulation facilities at City South Campus. These facilities simulate real situations that you may encounter in the workplace, providing a hands-on introduction to health and social care practice. The university boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including mock wards, an operating theatre and recovery suite, a home environment room, an assisted living space, a physiotherapy room, and radiotherapy planning and radiography image interpretation and reporting stations.
