Stag Job Shadow Program
The Stag Job Shadow program is designed to match seniors, juniors, and sophomores with alumni and parents for career conversations during winter break. This program provides students with valuable advice, insights into various professions, and opportunities to make new connections. For hosts, the program is a chance to give back and support today's students as they explore careers.
What Mentors Can Expect
Mentors can expect to engage in career conversations with one or more students, either in-person or virtually. These conversations can take the form of:
- Scheduling time for a student to visit their office for a half-day or full day
- Setting up a video call for an informational session
- Meeting for a conversation over lunch
- Inviting fellow alumni colleagues to join them
Alumni Timeline
The program follows this timeline for alumni:
- September: Alumni receive an email containing a link to the online registration page.
- October: Alumni complete a profile form and register to host 1-3 students at their organization.
- November: Matched alumni are notified of the student(s) who have requested to shadow them. Alumni who are not matched are also notified.
- December: Alumni and students make arrangements to connect.
- January: The job shadow experience occurs.
Typical Job Shadow Day
To ensure a successful job shadow experience, alumni and parent hosts are recommended to share an itinerary of what students should anticipate the shadow day to be like. This can include:
- Sharing how they decided on their major and career direction
- Talking about the courses and activities that helped prepare them for their career
- Reviewing their career path since graduating from Fairfield
- Discussing potential career paths within their organization and the industry
- Scheduling time with Human Resources to talk about future opportunities and hiring trends
- Presenting a typical workday
- Talking about some of the projects and tasks they are working on
- Having the student join them for client and internal meetings
- Touring their organization's facility or talking about their hybrid work environment
- Reviewing the student's resume
- Assigning a brief project relevant to their career interests or major
- Scheduling time for Q&A

Information for Students
The Job Shadow Day is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to learn about a typical day on the job by accompanying Fairfield alumni through their workday. Students begin to understand the skills and attributes necessary to succeed in a particular field while gaining a realistic picture of the everyday aspects of a workplace.
What Students Can Expect

- Participate in informational interviews with the Fairfield alumna
us host and other employees - Tour the workplace
- Have the opportunity for a resume review with the alumna

Student Timeline
The program follows this timeline for students:
- September: Students receive an email from the Career Center with a registration link.
- October: Interested students complete the application that matches students based on career interest and location.
- November: Students who request a match must review the orientation materials to learn about the program goals, procedures, and preparation for the experience.
- December: Contact the assigned mentor to arrange for the Job Shadow experience.
- January: The Job Shadow experience occurs.
